Welcome to

Video Game Design & Development!

Inside the Game Design campus

This workshop is intended to provide you with the understanding of and the skills necessary to create your own course where your students will design, develop, test and refine video games. It will include reading, writing, designing, programming and, oh yes, a little bit of playing. We will also be touching on math, science and technology as we take apart video games, find out what makes them tick and, hopefully, use that knowledge to build our own.

The workshop will explore the content in this site, which can be mixed and matched and adapted as necessary for your students. This site is modular and includes topics such as game theory, logic, ethics and economics.

The Game Maker's Apprentice by Jacob Habgood and Mark Overmars' will serve as our primary text. It is available in both print and digital versions. For those who desire more advanced material, a follow-on version of this text, entitled The Game Maker's Companion, was published in October 2010.

If you'd like to get going now, download and install the Game Maker app to your own computer and start exploring!
